Carl Kaufman

Carl Kaufman

Carl Chris Kaufman of Normanby Township, West Grey, passed away peacefully at Hanover and District Hospital on Sunday, February 9, 2025, with his family by his side. He was in his 85th year.

Born September 8th, 1940 in Normanby, to the late William and Hilda (Weppler) Kaufman. Carl met his wife Evelyn and together they raised their family. Carl was employed and worked as a carpenter for many years. Carl had a couple of unfortunate and serious accidents over the years, but his strong determination and perseverance were instrumental in overcoming these life challenges. Carl went on to continue living life to the fullest.  He worked for many years at Flemings Contractors as a carpenter/builder, and later years dealing in scrap metal. He was always doing his best to be self-sufficient and was very meticulous in everything he did. Carl enjoyed many hobbies, such as playing cards, working outside, splitting wood and always keeping the fire burning, spending time with family and friends and of course playing harmonica. Carl also always had a special place in his heart for animals and his dog Teddy and cat Georgie will be very much missed.

Survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Evelyn Kaufman. Loving father of his daughter Sarah and Greg Inglis of West Grey and son Jason and Tina Kaufman of Durham. Dearly missed by his grandchildren Matthew Kaufman, Gage and (Amanda) Ellis, Jacob Sim (Aillish), Seth and Brody Kaufman (Piper). Special step grandfather to John Fraser and Geoff and Christine Inglis and their children Lillian, Violet, Delilah, Iris Inglis. Great grandfather to Jocelyn, Noah, Bentley, Ryleigh and Cameron. Also survived by sisters in law, Cathy Kaufman and friend Rick, Evelyn Hosfeld, Jean and David Schaus, Diane McDonald and friend Jacob. Predeceased by his parents, parents in law Reuben (Hulda) Allensen, brother John (Isabelle) Kaufman, Harry Kaufman, twin brother Stuart Kaufman (Francis), brother in law John McDonald and sister Vera Gutzke.

Family and friends are invited to visitation at Mighton Funeral Home, Hanover on Thursday, February 13, 2025 from 5-7 pm. A funeral service will be held at First St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, Hanover on Friday, February 14, 2025 at 11 am. There will be a visitation prior to the service from 10-10:45 am. Evelyn, Gary and I are holding you in love and prayers as you grieve Carl's death. 56 years married is a long time and you've been solidly there for each other. I'll always remember Carl's humour and teasing, and when we saw each other in person or on the phone, his genuine interest in asking about what I was up to. I'm sure that interest extended to everyone. I wish I were in the area to give you a big hug! Love and light to you and your family. Deborah and Gary

Evelyn and family, I am so sorry about the profound loss of Carl- husband, father and grandfather. Evelyn, we've only met occasionally over the years...even though we share so much history. Carl reminded me of that-- he knew our farm well long before I did! My Grandparents were his Uncle John and Aunt Laura. Again, I am so sorry. You are in my thoughts and prayers.
