Cynthia Katherine ‘Meryle’ Green, of Hanover, passed away at Hanover and District Hospital, on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, she was 87.
Born in Mattawa, Ontario, to the late Arnold and Myrtle Condie (nee Morley).
Meryle most often worked in food services like Breault’s Hotel in New Liskeard and Christie’s Dairy in Beamsville. Upon moving to Hanover, she worked at the A & P Store. She ended her working career at McDonald’s Restaurant which she enjoyed immensely, especially because it meant she could work with teenagers.
Meryle enjoyed reading, often having 2 or 3 books going at once. She found great joy spending summers at the cottage and especially spending time with her family. In the early years, while living in Rutherglen, she loved attending Women’s Institute meetings and volunteering with the 4H. She enjoyed league bowling for many years. 'Meryle' had a competitive nature and loved a good game of cards. In recent years she looked forward to playing with a group of close friends.
Meryle and Alvin were married for 62 years and not only enjoyed their family cottage on Talon Lake but clocked many miles travelling across Canada and the USA. Meryle had more of a gypsy nature than Alvin so she often travelled with her sisters, nieces, friends and daughter to such places as Nashville, Branson, Britain, Amsterdam, Ireland and France.
She was proud to be a wife, mom, grandma, and great grandma, and her family was her greatest joy. She will be missed.
Survived by son Lynn Green (Judy) of High River, daughter Brenda (Bill) Campbell of Hanover, son Bruce (Glenda) Green of Barrie and son Brent (Connie) Green of New Brunswick. She cherished her 8 grandchildren Matthew Green, Jennifer Green, Brandon Campbell, Bowe Campbell, Justin Green, Steven Green, Miles Green and Mackenzie Green and 8 great grandchildren Dallas, Rayne, Aurora, Keaton, Callie, Levi, Aden and Avalynn. Fondly remembered by brother Harold Condie, sisters Vernice (Donat) Wissell and Gail Roach, in-laws Doris Magwood, Zella Watson, Teresa Cameron, Annabelle & Bryan Russell, Jim Green, Wayne & Linda Green, Garnet & Bertha Green and Erna O’Brien and too many nieces, nephews to mention. Predeceased by her parents, husband Alvin (2017), brothers Truman Condie and Clarence Condie, and sister Hilda Duquette.
Many thanks to the staff at McVean Lodge who became Meryle’s extended family. And also to the doctors, nurses and support staff at the Hanover & District Hospital who provided the most compassionate and caring end of life care possible.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Mighton Funeral Home, Hanover. A private family celebration will take place at the family cottage at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Hanover & District Hospital, Alzheimer’s Society, Saugeen Hospice or a charity of your choice would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy.
