Anton Christiansen

Anton Christiansen

Anton Ernst Uwe Christiansen of Hanover and formerly from Holyrood, passed away peacefully on Wednesday July 31st, 2024 at Hanover and District Hospital, at the age of 93.

Beloved husband of the late Ursel Christiansen (nee Depholt).

Devoted father of Ralph of Holyrood, Kiera Weale (Shaun) of Gowanstown, and Linda Ruetz (Paul) of Goderich.  Proud Opa to Justin (Taylor), Jordan, Erica (Eric), Sabrina, Ryan and Sheldon.  He will be remembered by extended family and friends in Germany as well. Predeceased by his brother Peter, sister-in-law Hannelore, and nephew Norbert.

Anton was born on October 18, 1930 in Suderbrarup, Germany to the late Peter and Elisabeth Christiansen.  From a young age farming was his life and anyone who spoke with him would know this.  Anton married Ursel on March 30, 1963 in Germany and immigrated to Canada shortly after.  In 1965 they bought a farm on Concession 14 in Culross Township which became their homestead.  Anton had two favourite topics of conversations.  He enjoyed discussions about farming with local farmers and talks about economics among his friends.  He enjoyed being a member on the co-op board in Teeswater which he attended monthly meetings for many years.  Anton also took pleasure in reading, particularly the yearly editions about the changes from his home area in Germany.  For many years he also enjoyed scheduled afternoons playing the popular German card game of “Skat” which he would gladly host in his home.  Another enjoyable past time was for Anton and Ursel, alongside with their friends, dancing to polka music when dances were held at the Hanover Coliseum and at the Kitchener Concordia Club.  They were both quite the dancers.

To honour Anton’s wishes, there will be no public visitation or services. Cremation will take place with a private inurnment in Hanover Cemetery.

Those wishing to make a donation in memory of Anton, are asked to consider the Hanover and District Hospital Foundation or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada, and may be made through www.mightonfuneralhome.ca.  Arrangements entrusted to Mighton Funeral Home, Hanover.

Public Condolences

Sorry to hear of Anton's passing----I really enjoyed many conversations with Anton about agriculture. He was very interested in the Teeswater Co-operative and a huge supporter and---- wasn't afraid to question and or offer his advice.. He attended all the Annual Meetings and even after moving to Hanover came to the meetings. A person who truly loved his chosen career and was very successful at it. -----Jeff Hurst---former General Manager of Teeswater District Co-operative
