Edner Hahn

Edner Hahn

Edner Theodore Hahn of Hanover, and formerly of Normanby Township, passed away at the Hanover & District Hospital on July 31st, 2024, in his 85th year.

He will be dearly missed by his wife Anne (Seifried) and her children: Alissa (Chad) Magwood and grandchildren Connor, Curtis, and Cameron Magwood of Guelph; Raechelle Devereaux and grandchildren Charles, Matthew and Emelia Ducharme of Guelph; Gillian Devereaux and grandchildren Lily, Brooklyn and Jacob Nickle of Garden Hill. Gramps was loved by all of the kids. He always enjoyed fishing and camping with them, and supporting their sports, academic and 4-H accomplishments.

Ed is survived by his sister Evelyn (Clayton) Ash of Elmira, mother-in-law Mary Seifried of Mount Forest, brother-in-law Edward (Helen) Seifried of Minto, sister-in-law Frances (Robin) Best of London, and brother-in-law Daniel (Angela) Seifried of Minto. He will be fondly remembered by aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. He is predeceased by his parents Theodore and Gertrude Hahn and his father-in-law Matthew Seifried.

During good health, Ed and Anne loved travelling across Canada and the US, viewing mountain peaks and massive trees and enjoying big adventures; flying over the Grand Canyon, Mt Logan and Mt Denali, admiring rock faces like Half Dome, The Big Chief and the solid towering walls of Bryce Canyon, deep sea fishing and walking with Kodiak bears in Alaska. He loved exploring the Dempster Highway to the Arctic Circle and the biodiversity of the Florida Everglades. Ed immensely enjoyed annual trips to Manitoulin Island with his family and excursions to Cyprus Lake with friends. 'Travel while you are able', are words that Ed lived to the fullest.

Ed was faith-filled (a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Ayton), thoughtful, kind and generous. He loved going to farm auctions, baking pies, eating chocolate, helping to host dinners with friends and Thanksgiving in the bush at the farm. He enjoyed volunteering at the Light on Main Street and at the Christmas Meal in Hanover. He was always a supporter of Anne’s passion for Operation Christmas Child. In January 2024, Ed was deeply saddened to say goodbye to his beloved big white dog, Teddy, who was always a loyal friend. In recent months, if Ed had a choice between going to the emergency department or to a solo card party, solo won out every time.

Ed’s family is grateful for the exceptional care and compassion provided by his doctors, especially Dr. Abell, wonderful nurses, physiotherapist Adam and the entire staff at the Hanover and District Hospital during the past 6 months.

As expressions of sympathy donations may be made to Samaritan’s Purse Canada; Sudan Relief or Operation Christmas Child (https://secure.samaritanspurse.ca/Donation/), the Hanover & District Hospital Foundation (https://www.hdhf.ca/donate), or to the charity of your choice.

A funeral mass will be celebrated at Holy Family Parish in Hanover on Saturday September 7th, 2024 at 11am. Cremation has taken place with internment to follow at a later date at Hampden Cemetery, West Grey.
