Gerard Joseph "Charlie" Moyer, formerly of Mildmay, passed away peacefully at Rockwood Terrace in Durham on Wednesday, July 3, 2024. He was 79.
Born on November 16, 1944 to the late Peter and Margaret (nee Fischer) Moyer. Better known as Charlie to all his family and friends, he loved to play the piano. Charlie was born blind, but never let that stop him. He attended Braille School in Brantford and always found ways to make things happen. He was a firecracker and loved to make jokes. His favorite thing to do other than make jokes, was to eat.... he loved chocolate milkshakes, fish and chips and was never seen without his coffee and cigarettes. He had a passion for people and loved to play cards and even babysit his nieces and nephews.
Survived by siblings Don (Betty) Moyer, Betty-Ann Kuntz, Marion (Ken) Weber, Murray (Jane) Moyer, Audrey (Wayne) Keip, Kathy Campbell and Karen (Brian) Kreller as well as many nieces, nephews and their families. Predeceased by his parents and by his sister Madeline Bester.
Visitation will be held at Mighton Funeral Home, Hanover, on Sunday, July 7, 2024 from 1-4 pm. A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, July 8, 2024 at 11:00 am, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Mildmay. Interment in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Mildmay.
Memorial donations to the CNIB or to Rockwood Terrace Residents Fund would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy.

- phyllis SchefterAll the people at Rockwood will certainly miss Charlie. He and I met about 40 years ago when we were both out performing music at local venues. All the great memories of his sense of humour, his great attitude and his love and knowledge of popular music have been shared, and describes him well. I have had the privilege of having Charlie perform with me many times over the last few years when I have my monthly music visits to Rockwood, including in June this year. I will think of him fondly every time I enter that room and see the grand piano in the future. Im sure lots of people will have many great memories of Charlie as well.
- Al CrawfordSincere condolences to the Moyer Family. Charlie was a ray of sunshine and I'll always remember him playing in the hotels. My favourite memory of him was when he and Kenny went to leave the Tavern one evening and Kenny said "it's really foggy" without missing a beat Charlie piped up "I'll drive" we all laughed so hard. He was always good for a laugh.
We are so sorry to hear of Charlie passing away. During all the years of playing music with Charlie he was always so upbeat and happy. He was a talented musician. We will miss our telephone conversations that usually included listening to Charlie playing a song he wanted to let us hear over the phone. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Moyer families.
