Gary Roy Atkinson, of Hanover, passed away at his home on Marl Lake, Hanover, on Wednesday, March 6, 2024. He was 78.
Born on October 28, 1945 in Brantford, Ontario to the late Roy and Dorothea (nee Petteplace) Atkinson. Many will remember Gary in Hanover as the owner of the former Hanover Inn, serving many people from Town with the Friday night buffets and entertainment. Gary enjoyed racing stock cars, playing golf and in his earlier days riding motorcycles.
Survived by children Lesley (Adam) Head, and Justin Atkinson. Grandfather of Sawyer, Adler, and Piper Head. Fondly remembered by sister Judy (Darryl) Taylor-Verge, and nephew Scott Atkinson. Predeceased by his parents.
Cremation has taken place. Arrangements entrusted to the care of Mighton Funeral Home, Hanover. Memorial donations to McMaster Children’s Hospital would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy.

I have very fond memories of racing at Varney in the 90s-early 2000s. Great guy to hang out with in the pits and a total pain in the butt on the track in the best possible way.
