Larry Lahn

Larry Lahn

Larry Frederick Lahn, of Hanover, passed away peacefully hand in hand with his family by his side at Chapman House Residential Hospice in Owen Sound on Tuesday, January 16, 2024. He was 86.

Born in Hanover on August 15, 1937 to the late David "Hap" and Alma (nee Wiegel) Lahn, Larry was a Hanover boy through and through and a proud member of the East End Boys. Many people from Hanover and surrounding area will remember Larry as a young, energetic salesman alongside his dad, "Hap" Lahn with Hap Lahn Motor Sales in Hanover. His career continued at Don McKinnon Ford and finally Don Schnurr Motors. He was very involved with Standardbred Canada and will be missed. He enjoyed curling with friends, but he loved singing with friends even more. He was a devoted member of St. Matthew's Ev. Lutheran Church, where he would be most comfortable where others weren't.....the choir. He would go on to sing with the Grey Bruce Singers and most recently the "Sing, Sing, Sing Show Choir. Larry was blessed with many close friends that he cherished until the end.

Survived by devoted wife, Jean (nee Smith) Lahn of Hanover. Loved father of Nancy Jean Lahn of Owen Sound. Larry will be remembered by his "daughter of choice" Jake Van Camp (Ben Eurbey) of B.C. Remembered by his sisters in law Ruth Lahn of Woodstock and Mary Ellen Lahn of Waterloo as well as many nieces, nephews and their families. He will be missed by Jean's side of the family as well as his extended family from all over. Predeceased by his parents, siblings Gerald (Audrey) Lahn, Ken (Marg) Lahn, Rob Lahn, Don Lahn and Lloyd (Shirley) Lahn.

Family and friends are invited to a Memorial Visitation held at St. Matthew's Ev. Lutheran Church in Hanover on Monday, January 22, 2024 from 10 am until time of a Service of Remembrance at 11am. For anyone wanting to raise a glass in celebration of Larry’s life, a party will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion in Hanover after the service. Cremation has taken place with inurnment in Hanover Columbarium in the spring.

For those unable to attend the service, the memorial service will be live streamed and recorded, and available for viewing directly on the obituary page on our website, and through the Mighton Funeral Home YouTube Channel at: https://www.youtube.com/@MightonFuneralHomeLtd The live stream will start approximately 5-10 minutes prior to the service - at that time, please look for the live video post on the obituary page on our website or the Funeral Home YouTube Channel to join the service.

The family would like to express their deepest thanks to the staff of the emergency department at The Hanover and District Hospital, the 4th floor staff at the Brightshores Hospital, and the staff and volunteers at Chapman House for their care and compassion.

Jean and Norma Jean- sorry for your loss of your husband/father. My parents were very good friends with Larry and Jean. I can remember, starting WAY BACK when I was a child, listening to stories of Larry and Jean and the others shared between "The Gang". Over the years I got to know Larry better and always made my day talking to him. Remember all the good times... they will be with you forever!

Extending my deepest sympathy to you Jean and Nancy Jean and all extended famillies. Larry was such a happy go lucky guy, ALWAYS with a big smile for everyone (except maybe when he was shovelling snow). I will miss our little chats when I ran into you both shopping. He certainly had a love of life-singing in the choir at St. Mathews, curling which I never knew about and just all his interests-Larry will be missed by all who knew him. RIP dear friend

Condolences to you Jean, Nancy Jean and all members of the Lahn family.
We have lost someone very special in our lives.
We members of the exclusive club called the East End boys know Larry will be forever missed. Those 48 years of memories will never fade only to be enhanced with the reminiscing and telling. There will be much laughter.

He was proud of hometown Hanover. Hanover the musical town. Those of us who moved away, he was the source of news.

Larry was fun and laughter. Laughed the hardest at his own jokes.

Larry was a true friend.

Sincerely,
Don & Janet Dirstein

Jean and Nancy Jean.
So sorry for the loss of your amazing husband and dad. Larry was a fun part of our childhood. We often reminisce when together about when Larry babysat us. He used to holler up the stairs “ don't get your hopes too high” All of us use that phrase with our own - and giggle remembering. Larry was a great friend to dad. Dad speaks of Larry often and their teenage adventures.
Peace and prayers to you all xoxo
