Burton Earl Talbot, of Hanover, passed away at Rockwood Terrace, Durham on Thursday, August 17, 2023. He was 92.
Born in Flesherton on February 24, 1931, to the late Lloyd and Margaret (nee Best) Talbot. Burton was raised on a farm near Flesherton. He started working out West on the harvest exchange as a farm hand in the early 1950’s. He came back to Ontario and drove a transport truck making deliveries in Toronto. He met the love of his life, Marjorie, and they wed on November 5, 1955. They decided to leave Toronto to be closer to family and Burton applied for a job working for the town of Hanover. He enjoyed a long and rewarding career working for over 40 years as the foreman of Hanover Public Works department. He took pride in his work and his family. He also enjoyed hobby farming and raising beef cattle and sheep herds on various farms. He loved horses and got ponies for his children; taking them to all the local fairs and horse shows. He enjoyed camping, ice fishing, travel and country music. Burton and his wife Marjorie hosted many large gatherings of campers for pig roasts and live music. They loved to see everyone enjoying themselves and having a good time. They took many family vacations travelling across Canada; coast to coast from Vancouver to Prince Edward Island, and many times to Florida by car with six kids and a camper in tow. The love of the outdoors kept Burton content in his retirement; spending time with family, camping, cutting his own firewood, making maple syrup, planting a large garden, and keeping the grounds on his country property meticulously manicured. He will be dearly missed.
Survived by loving wife Marjorie (nee Doherty) of Hanover. Loved father of Donna (Robert) MacMillan of Hanover, Dennis (Judy) Talbot of Clifford, Doug Talbot (Susan Page) of Ayton, and Ron (Lou) Talbot of Crawford. Cherished grandfather of Shawn, Gregory, and Denise MacMillan, Mitchell, and Melissa Talbot, Daryl Talbot, Christopher and Allison Walter, and several great grandchildren. Fondly remembered by sister Alma Menary of Brampton. Predeceased by sons Kenneth and Robert Talbot, grandson Donnie Talbot, and brothers Everett and Charlie.
Visitation will be held at Mighton Funeral Home, Hanover, on Tuesday, August 22, 2023, from 2-5 pm. A private family funeral will follow at a later date. Interment in Hanover Cemetery.
Memorial donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy.
