Daniel James Murphy, of RR#2 Walkerton, passed away at Grey-Bruce Health Services, Owen Sound on Thursday, August 17, 2023. He was 66.
Born in Hanover on August 29, 1956, to John and Rosemary (nee Scoles) Murphy. Many people will remember Danny from his 40+ years of service working at Bruce Power as a Nuclear Operator. Danny was a kind and caring man who was always willing to help anyone in need. He was a dedicated and passionate Toronto Maple Leafs fan, and he loved to go out and support local restaurants and pubs and enjoy their food and drinks and socializing with staff and customers. Above all, Danny loved his family. He was a proud brother and uncle, and was always busy ensuring family gatherings were planned and organized, especially the family Christmas gatherings and summer birthday parties that he hosted.
Survived by parents John and Rosemary Murphy of Hanover. Loved brother of Michael (Ursula) Murphy of Saugeen Shores, Jim (Joanne) Murphy of Walkerton, Mary Lou (Gord) Archer of Orangeville, Helen (Keith) Elliott of Newmarket, and Kathy (David) Ermel of Hanover. Proud uncle of Katie, Siobhan, Kevin, Reaghen (David), Alison, Evan, Emily, Madison, Liam, Sean, Makenzie, and Kyle. Fondly remembered by close friend Tina Scott of Hanover. Predeceased by his wife Estela ‘Sonia’ (nee Duarte) Murphy.
A Memorial Visitation will be held at Mighton Funeral Home, Hanover, on Friday, August 25, 2023, from 6-8 pm. Funeral Mass will be held at Holy Family Church, Hanover on Saturday, August 26, 2023 at 11 am.
Memorial donations to Grey Bruce Health Service Foundation or the Hanover and District Hospital Foundation would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy.
So sorry to hear of Dan's passing and my condolences to all. I had the pleasure of working with Dan on A Crew first when I joined the crew as a SAT and later when I returned as a CRSS. Dan was a real gentleman. Sharply intellectual, soft spoken, always professional, and incredibly humble. Such a loss.
- Steve ParsonsMy condolences to Dan's family and close friends.
I had the privilege to work with Dan for a couple of years before he retired and will not forget that time. Dan will be missed.
Another of my work family has left the building. Dan was one of the most "complete" ANOs in the station. He knew his stuff and remained down to earth. Remember a couple of occasions when Dan would invite the crew over after a shift hockey game or, ball game. The world will miss him. My sincerest condolences to the family.

- Kelly MullenMurph, what a great guy and consummate professional! I worked on A Crew with Dan for 19 years and we had a lot of fun together over that time, between hockey tournaments, shift hockey and crew outings, maybe at work a little bit too! A guy that could flip that switch from telling a joke or story to fixing whatever emergency came up, immediately. Gonna be missed Murph! What a great life! Never forget that hockey bag on the tailgate!

- Donna and Frank DentingerOur thoughts go to Dan's family, losing a son and brother too early. Dan was a mentor for me in my early days as ANO on A crew. He was one of a kind! He really brought that Bruce County charm to nuclear power. He certainly lives on as author of hundreds if not thousands of operating documents for Bruce B, a lasting legacy. Hoping his spirit has moved on to a place where there are lots of "wings and beer".
- Andy and Marg SandeOur deepest sympathy goes out to the entire Murphy family. We are so very sorry to hear about the loss of Danny. Dan was a consummate professional and a brilliant First Operator. Dan always made time to share His knowledge and experience with everyone He worked with. We crossed paths post His retirement while He was riding His bike around Hanover, as always Dan had time to chat and share a laugh. Gone too soon.
