Walter "Wally" Patrick Fischer, of Hanover, passed away peacefully at Hanover and District Hospital on Saturday, July 1, 2023. He was 66.
Born on December 27, 1956 to the late Harold and Clara (nee Waechter) Fischer in Walkerton. Better known as Wally, he was a fun-loving, hard working man. He co-founded Zettel-Fischer Contracting in Hanover building a number of homes in the area, before shifting gears and hitting the road with McArthur Express, spending over 20 years and 2 million miles long-haul trucking. Wally will be remembered for his sense of humour, charm and charisma.
Survived by sons Graham Fischer (fiancée Shaylyn Gaffney) of London, Andrew Fischer of Brantford, and daughter Samantha Fischer of Hanover. Fondly remembered by his siblings Dave (Denise), Jane (Ed), Mary (Derek), Karen (Mike) as well as their children and their families. Predeceased by his parents and his brother Al Fischer.
To honour his wishes a Private Graveside Service was held at Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Formosa with interment in the family plot. We welcome all those interested to join us for a Celebration of Life at the Hanover Legion, from 1-9pm on Saturday July 29th, 2023.
Memorial donations to the Salvation Army Food Bank would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy.
Sammy so sorry for the loss of your Dad.
- DianeI am so sorry to hear of Wally's passing. I worked under Wally for Zettel Fischer in the 80s. Wally always had a joke, or a mimic, or a witty response. I have many fond memories of Wally and I am heartbroken to him go too soon.
- Bud HalpinSo sad to hear Wally has passed away, I knew him in his younger days when he could tell great stories and draw people to him to laugh and enjoy. His favourite saying was, "your cooler should look as good on Sunday as it did on Friday night". It always held Campbell's tomato (juice which he swore was the best) and Labatt's 50. There's a star burning brighter in the sky now that he's gone. Condolences, Deb Reddon
So sad to hear of Wallys passing. Wallaay as l called him was a big guy, with big stories that made you laugh until you cried. Nobody could tell a story like Wallaay.and nobody could pack a cooler as well as he could... Rest in peace dear Wallaay 💕
- Mary Ellen ReddonJane and Ed, Mary and Derek, Karen and Mike and Dave and Denise....sincere condolences on the passing of Wally. I was shocked to hear of his passing and have many fond and funny memories of Wally the many summers I spent on your farm and he would come by to visit your mom...he was always a character!
Best regards
Pete, Christine, Andrew and Blake Fischer
