Alexander "Alex" Watson Cameron, of Hanover, passed away peacefully at Hanover and District Hospital on Saturday, May 20, 2023. He was 87.
Born on September 22, 1935 in Bowmanville, Ontario to the late Alexander and Helen (nee Purdy) Cameron. Alex met Carolyn in Sarnia, Ontario where she was a Registered Nurse. Alex was employed with the Ontario Provincial Police. Together leading an active life, they moved to Timmins when Alex was transferred in the OPP. He left the OPP and was employed with the Anglican Church - Diocese of Moosonee. This led to other positions, but finally settled with the Motor Fuel and Tobacco Tax with the Province of Ontario from which he retired. Together, spending 14 winters in Florida, and summers in Restoule, they moved to Tara when health concerns restricted both from travelling.
Over the years Alex was active in the Shrine, Royal Canadian Legion, Anglican Church, St Andrews Society, OPP Veterans Association, and Timmins Legion Pipe Band.
Survived by sons Alexander "Alex" (Linda) Cameron of Port Elgin and Dr. John Scott (Cathie) Cameron of New Hamburg. Loved by his grandchildren Ashley, Lisa, Jillian, Alexander, Michael and great grandsons Rhys, Rory, Locke and Hays. He will be fondly remembered by several cousins and their families, especially Lesley Stubbs in England. Predeceased by his beloved wife Carolyn (nee Kolmer) Cameron.
