Joseph Martin Schlatman, of Hanover, passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of his wife and children at home on Friday, April 14, 2023. He was 79.
Born in Toronto on December 9, 1943, to the late Thomas and Louise (nee Konnerth) Schlatman. Anyone that knew Joe knew he had tremendous love for his family and a passion for music. He dedicated his time to not only music with his bands The Chevels and The Dimensions, but also gave back to the community that he cared about and called home. He was an avid historian, recounting and collecting photos to help keep Hanover’s history alive. He was a dedicated volunteer Firefighter with the Hanover Fire Department for 35 years. He was promoted to Captain in 1990 and then to Deputy Chief in 1998 until his retirement in 2002. Just this past March, HFD awarded him with the Terry McDonald Memorial Award for his demonstrated strength, courage and dedication to the Community. He loved his friends and had a helpful disposition about him. He also volunteered on several committees and boards within the community. He will be dearly missed, and never forgotten by all who knew him.
Survived by his loving wife Barb (nee Jones) Schlatman of Hanover. Dear father of Rob Schlatman (Raquel Romero), Mike Schlatman and Tara (Brooke) Maskell all of Hanover. Special Grandpa of Cassandra Schlatman (Dave Lantz) and beloved "Papa" of Sadie Maskell. Ever loved great grandpa Joe of Jaxson and Lucas Lantz. Fondly remembered by his siblings Sue (Bruce) Robbins, Jim (Audrey) Schlatman, Paul (Jacquelyn) Schlatman, Jeanette Schlatman and by his in-laws Gus Stahlmann, Cam McCulloch, and Betty (Jack) Fraser, as well as his many nieces, nephews and their families. Predeceased by his parents, stepmother Joyce Schlatman, brother Tom (Linda) Schlatman and by his stepsisters Janice Stahlmann and Patti McCulloch.
Family and friends are invited to a Memorial Visitation held at Holy Family Church, Hanover on Friday, April 21, 2023, from 10-10:45am where a Memorial Mass will commence at 11 am. Cremation has taken place and Inurnment in Holy Family Cemetery will follow.
Memorial donations to the Hanover Fire Department or to the charity of your choice would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy.

Just heard this morning while talking to Jack & Betty that Joe had passed away. I worked with Joe for many years at the BNPD. Joe was one of the early computer gurus when we first started using them on the site. Long before there was a dedicated IT group, if we had a computer problem it was always, ask Joe, maybe he can fix it.
Sincere sympathy to Barb and all of the family. Rest in peace Joe.
