Shirley enjoyed her gardens and received a number of Trillium Awards from the Province of Ontario. She had a special love for the birds and small animals that visited her gardens in search of the treats she would leave out.
Her family wishes to thank Dr Robert Basilij as well as Kate and the staff at McVean Lodge in Hanover, for all of the care and attention they have given to our mom. She loved her McVean home and felt safe and cared for. Our mom spoke very highly of you all.
Shirley had many friendships that lasted over the years, in particular with Gillian of Ancaster, Patty of Mildmay and her cousin Deanna.

- Patty DietzSorry to hear of your kind mothers passing. One of my favourite memories was of Chris and I returning home from school and the doors were locked. Chris started to call through the window, however, Shirley didn't hear us because she vacuuming, dancing, and singing to a blaring Barry Manilow song.
- Lisa Baytaluk (Miscio)Kayla and I will miss Shirley very much. Always one of our first residents to visit at McVean. She was a pleasure to chat with, so positive in her outlook, and we enjoyed the time spent with her. A truly, lovely person.

- Ellen CavillTo all of Shirley's family,
We're very sorry to hear about your mom. We got to know her after our mom Fern moved in to Maple Court, and became friends with your mom. My mom thought of Shirley as a new best friend during her time there, and after they both moved into Hanover care, mom into the LTC and Shirley next door. We had many fun filled coffee hrs at maple court with the group, over the years. How nice you got to spend her birthday with her before her passing.
With our Sincere Condolences,
Tammy and Charlene McFadden
