Lilly "Lil" Ann Ahrens, of Hanover, passed away after a brief battle with Cancer at Hanover and District Hospital on Friday, March 31, 2023. She was 75.
Born on October 21, 1947 in Toronto to the late William and Nellie (nee Oleksiuk) Shlahetka. Lil was an Administrative Assistant for Hanover Kitchens for many years. She was a faithful and devoted member of the CWL at Holy Family Church in Hanover.
Survived by devoted husband Robert "Bob" Ahrens of Hanover. Loved mother of Christopher (Lesia) Ahrens and Cheryl (Gerry) McLean both of Hanover. Special Baba (Grandma) of Nathan, Jordan, Joshua and Grace – Lil adored looking after her grandchildren, and was a big part of their lives. Fondly remembered by her sister Mary Anne (John) Dunne and Violet "Vi" (Ernie) Kovacs both of Hanover, as well as many nieces, nephews, and their families. Predeceased by her parents.
Family and friends are invited to visitation held at Mighton Funeral Home, on Tuesday, April 4, 2023 from 4-7pm. A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, April 5, 2023 at 11:00 am, at Holy Family Church. Interment in Holy Family Cemetery, Hanover.

I was praying for Lil's recovery - if it be God's will - but not to be
this time. Lil was always so gracious, so loving, so kind...she had a real heart for people and always spoke to me at church and when we traded places in Holy Hour, she was ever willing to listen to me...I can't express how much she has meant to me - I could not write about it until some time has passed...I am sure all your hearts are missing her beyond what mere words can say....Last night - at Mass - when we arrived in Church - there was a lady near the front (on the same side that Lil always sat) whose hair-do so reminded us of Lil! We knew it was not her - but for a brief moment - we were pleasantly shocked to see her again - albeit from the back - but it was a bittersweet memory anyway.
May God, our loving Father be with you all as you journey thru this rough patch.

I am so very sorry to hear of Lil's illness and death. It's hard to imagine a world without her here. She stepped in to help our family over 35 years ago, and we have kept in touch all these years. When Lil stepped in, she was there for life. I could message her to call me, and she would call and we'd chat for ages. She was always there. She loved her family. She loved her children. She loved her grandchildren. She also loved and showed kindness to so many other people, just because that's who she was. . .
She had such a strong faith in God, and wasn't afraid to encourage others to embrace their faith when times were tough. I know she is in her Heaven, and that she is with all those she loved who passed before her. She will also shine her love down on you all as she protects and guides you from above. Share stories of Lil as you gather together with family and friends. She LOVED to share stories of my parents with me, and it was a way to honour their time on earth. Lil deserves to be honoured in the very same way. To live in the hearts of those you loved and left behind is not to die. Lil will live on in all of you.
While I am so incredibly sorry for your loss, I am also so thankful that I had the opportunity to share a little piece of her life. I am thankful for everything she did to let me and my sisters into your family at a very dark time in our lives. It was a very sad day when she left us. There is no one on this earth like Lil. Rest in peace, Lil. We will remember you forever.
My condolences to the entire Ahrens' family! Lil' Ann and I enjoyed many years of correspondence and trips down memory lane. I will so miss that! Although we never met, we have many people in common, and thus, a bond was formed. What I do know is, there's a pretty bright star in the sky now! XOX
