I just read Betty's obituary and it took me right back to Waterloo!
I was returning to teaching after my maternity leave and was told by another teacher that Betty had cared for her child and was perhaps, available!
For me and for my daughter, Betty was the best gift we could ever have received.
Betty came first to our home which was closer to where she lived then when we moved that year a little further away, Betty agreed to continue with us!
I was only teaching mornings so often Betty would invite my daughter and myself to visit with her in the afternoon..and her little dog.
We had coffee and cookies and Betty taught me how to save coupons, especially saying I could get two for one of a certain hair colour that came in a box and save on trips to the hairdresser:)
My daughter loved Betty dearly as did my husband and I.
My father, Fred Worthington, also connected that he and my Mom had known Betty from an earlier time in Walkerton.
It is a small world.
Betty and my daughter turned the t.v. On for one special show in the morning!
My daughter still equates these words, “Come on down!!!” With her dear and kind and lovely Betty Boyd!!
It turns out unfortunately that my husband spent the last four months of his life at Bruce Lea.
That is not a good memory at all.
I am happy to know that Betty's experience there was more positive.
