GATEMAN
William "Bill" Gateman, of Hanover, passed away after a brief battle with cancer at Hanover and District Hospital on Friday, August 5, 2022. He was 65.
Born in Hanover on April 5, 1957 to William and Iila Jean (nee Johnson) Gateman. Bill was a great man that valued family. He will be remembered as one of the best bricklayers around the county and often told others he was a "Brick-ologist". Although, with his recent decline in health, he was not able to head out to the Legion as often as he would have liked, but will be remembered by all the comrades there. In Bill’s famous words “Jen-Vay”.
Survived by devoted spouse Shirley Peter for 21 years of Hanover. Loved father of Cassie Gateman of Red Deer Alberta and Colton Gateman of Sundre, Alberta. Step father of Stacey (Anthony) Wheelus of Tennesse, Justin (Tracy) Peter and Devon Peter (Brittany) both of Kirkland Lake. Special grampa of Gabriel, Saphryn, Atlas and Stacey-lynn. Bill will be fondly remembered by his siblings Nancy Gateman of Hanover, Janice Gateman of Duncan, B.C, Susan Reddon of Hanover and Jim Gateman of Ayton. Remembered by his many nieces, nephews and their families. Predeceased by his father William, brother Randy Gateman and brother in law David Reddon.
To honour his wishes, cremation has taken place and a Memorial Celebration will be held at a later date.
Memorial donations to the Cancer Society or to the Royal Canadian Legion - Hanover are appreciated as expressions of sympathy. Arrangements entrusted to the care of Mighton Funeral Home.
I believe Bill bricked my house in Gobles Grove in 1977. A quiet man that did fantastic workmanship. Thanks Bill. Rest in Peace.
