John Shatto

John Wesley Shatto, of Hanover, was Promoted to Glory, passing away peacefully at the Hanover and District Hospital on February 2, 2022, at the age of 87.

John Wesley Shatto was born in South Bend, Indiana on January 19, 1935. Son of Manno and Laura Shatto (Grodey). His early life was spent in Indiana, Texas and California. After college he served in the US Army before coming to Canada in 1962. He married the love of his life, Elsie (Emke) in 1965 in Elmwood, Ontario. Together they raised two sons, David and Andrew. Sensing God’s call, John and Elsie entered The Salvation Army College for Officer Training in Toronto, Ontario, with the Disciples of Jesus session, from 1976 to 1978. Together they entered a lifetime of ministry as Officers across Canada and Bermuda, retiring in 2000 as Majors with the Salvation Army.

John is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Elsie (Emke), their sons, David (Diane) and Andrew (Lori). Granddaughters, Amy (Ian) Martin and Julie Shatto. Great Granddaughter, Eileen Martin. Also, survived by sister, Sarah (David) Emke. Fondly remembered as well by numerous family and friends. His cheerful smile, love of ice cream, the impact he had on the lives of others and his devotion to God will be felt for years to come.

Public Visitation will be held at the Salvation Army Church, Hanover, on Tuesday, February 8, 2022, from 10 -10:45 am, where a Funeral Service will follow at 11 am. Those wishing to attend the visitation or funeral service must register by calling the funeral home at 519-364-3660 to book a spot to attend. Social distancing and use of a face covering indoors is mandatory. Captains Wendy & Mark Crabb officiating.  Private family interment in Hanover Cemetery to follow.

For those who are unable to attend, the Funeral Service will be live streamed through the Mighton Funeral Home Facebook page:  https://www.facebook.com/Mighton-Funeral-Home-Ltd-109625187108921  The live stream will start approximately 5-10 minutes prior to the service - at that time, please look for the live stream video post on the Funeral Home Facebook Page to join the service.  For people unable to join at the time of the service, the live stream video will remain posted for a short period of time and available for viewing afterwards, and will also be posted on the Funeral Home obituary page in the days following.
