Willard Lang

Willard Lang

Willard John Lang

1931 – 2022

Willard Lang of Chepstow passed away on Friday, January 21, 2022, at the South Bruce Grey Health Centre in Walkerton.  He was 90 years old.

Born on November 1, 1931 in Greenock Township.  Predeceased by his parents William and Hilda (nee Ernst) Lang and his brother Ernest Lang.  Survived by his wife Marjorie (nee Waechter) and three children Linda (Gary McTeer), Jim (Laurie Borho) and Patti Lang, as well as six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Willard grew up on his home farm and continued farming with Ernie after marrying Marjorie in September 1957.  As avid farmers, the Lang brothers grew a variety of crops, but turnips were their legacy.  What started as three acres on the home farm grew to 100 acres over the years.  They also raised cows and pigs.

Willard was very passionate about sports.  He was a pitcher for the Chepstow, Formosa and Teeswater softball teams for many years.  He was also an avid curler, spending a lot of time at different curling clubs and participating in various bonspiels.  He won several trophies in both sports.  When he wasn’t playing himself, Willard could be found watching baseball games and curling events on TV.  He also made sure he caught most of the hockey games.  Willard was a huge Blue Jays and Canadiens fan.  He also quite enjoyed following horse racing, in person as well as on TV.

Willard also loved flowers, even more than Marjorie!  Perhaps his love of flowers started with the yellow roses his mom grew on the farm.  Sunflowers were one of his favourites, so Marjorie often planted some for him in their garden.  Willard was quite pleased to receive fresh bouquets for special occasions, and he absolutely loved the white lilies that Linda always grows in her front flowerbed.

Without a doubt, Willard’s favourite leisure activity was playing euchre.  He was famous for saying “Do you have time for one more game?” after playing several games already.  The number needed to count how many games he played altogether over the years would be a rather large one indeed!  Willard loved the game, and he was quite good at it, too.

After being married for 64 years, Willard will be greatly missed by his wife Marjorie.  He will be remembered and missed by the entire family who wish him eternal peace and happiness.

A private family visitation and Mass will be held at Mary Immaculate Catholic Church in Chepstow on Thursday, January 27, 2022. Spring interment in Mary Immaculate Catholic Cemetery.

Arrangements entrusted to the care of Mighton Funeral Home, Hanover.  As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations to the Canadian Diabetes Association would be appreciated.
