Gerald Arnold Becker “Charlie”, of RR3 Ayton, passed away on Friday, October 22, 2021, surrounded by his family at home. He was 66.
Born in Hanover on September 13, 1955, son of the late Menno and Eileen (Wettlaufer) Becker. Gerald was a hard working, strong man. He was often referred to as Charlie, causing some interesting rumors when friends and family would speak about Gerald and then use the name Charlie in the same sentence. Gerald was very competitive, and some people will remember him as a talented athlete, even holding records in Track and Field with Normanby Community School and John Diefenbaker Secondary School. His fun-loving, friendly, and competitive nature also served him well in his other sporting passion, as he played many years of fastball in Ayton. But above all passions Gerald had, family and farming always came first. His love for his family and close friends was unwavering, and his kind heart made him a best friend of many – he will be dearly missed.
Survived by wife Deborah (nee Lantz) Becker, children Michael Becker and Chad Becker (Jamie Grove) both of R.R. 3 Ayton, and Tonya Becker (Jason Moore) of Hanover. Loved grandpa of Emma and Owen, also fondly missed by Robert, Michael, David, William and Hannah. Dear Godfather of Jodie Nuhn and Derek Verstege. Fondly remembered by his siblings Laverne (Janice) Becker of Neustadt, Dennis (Lorie) Becker of Calgary, Alberta, Elaine (Paul) Szigatti of Port Colbourne, and Kathy (Ben) Verstege of Hanover. Missed dearly by his mother-in-law Doreen Lantz as well as Deb's siblings Bruce (Ivy) Lantz, Bonnie (Ron) Becker, Joyce (Jim) Nuhn, George (MaryJo) Lantz, Linda (Bruce) Fidler, Dale (Denise) Lantz and Greg Lantz. Charlie will be remembered by many nieces, nephews and their families. Predeceased by his sister Dianne (Mancel) Waugh and his father-in-law George Lantz Sr.
