Alvin Eugene Grein, of Hanover, passed away peacefully at Hanover Care Centre on Saturday, August 28, 2021. He was 84.
Alvin was born in Hanover on July 25, 1937 to the late George and Hilda (nee Fischer) Grein. Alvin was a graduate from Ryerson University in Electronics. He grew up in Hanover and then later raised his own family where he was a shop teacher at J.D.S.S. until his retirement. Alvin was an active member of the Royal Canadian Legion - Hanover Branch, running the Poppy Fund for many years. He was also a Council Member for the Town of Hanover and was very involved with his community. Alvin was a kind, happy person with a knack for old sayings, frequently coming back with quick witted answers. He had a way of making everyone around him smile and laugh. He was a great man that will be missed and loved by so many.
Loving father of Fred (Jennifer) Grein of Hanover and Dave Grein of Kitchener. Cherished grandfather of Damon, Alex, Kinley, Brianna and Madison. Fondly remembered by his siblings Ross (Caroline) Grein, Ione Warden, Irene Netzke and by his sister in law Doreen Grein. Predeceased by his wife Winnifred "Liz" (nee Reid), brothers Fred and Ivan, sisters Pauline (Keith) Armstrong and Lorraine in infancy.
A Private Family Visitation and Service will be held at Mighton Funeral Home. Rev. John Polacok officiating. Interment in Hanover Cemetery, Hanover.
Memorial donations to the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #130 Hanover were appreciated as expressions of sympathy.
