Kenneth "Ken" George Hilgendorff, of Neustadt, passed away peacefully at Hanover and District Hospital on Wednesday, June 30, 2021. He was 87.
Born in Neustadt on February 6, 1934 to the late Christian and Mary (nee Zimmerman) Hilgendorff. Ken, also known as "Whisky" was a member of the Neustadt Lions Club. He was a dedicated fire fighter with the Neustadt Fire Department and worked his way up to Deputy Fire Chief. He enjoyed wood working and tinkering with anything electronic. He was often found outside in the summer months tending to his garden trains and flowerbeds. Ken enjoyed the outdoors and his favorite sport was Baseball. He played for many years, making countless friends and enjoyed being active. He was also "famous" in Neustadt, being the one that did the original house numbering system for the village.
Survived by devoted wife Helen (nee Mauer) Hilgendorff of Neustadt, just celebrating their 62nd Wedding Anniversary on June 27th. Loved father of Kevin Hilgendorff of Neustadt and Kim (Kevin) Hartman of Hanover. Special grandfather of Sindy Hartman of Woodstock. Fondly remembered by his brother Gerald "Butch" Hilgendorff of Neustadt, sisters Burnette "Nettie" (Ron) Emke and Joanne Hilgendorff both of Hanover. Ken will be remembered by his sister in law Joyce (Morley) Leifso of Elmwood and brother in law Al (Brenda) Mauer of Hanover. Loved uncle to many nieces, nephews and their families. Predeceased by his parents and parent in law John and Anna (Rhody) Mauer.
To honour his wishes, there will be no visitation or services. Cremation has taken place. Arrangements entrusted to Mighton Funeral Home, Hanover.
