Irene Davis, of Hanover, passed away at Hanover and District Hospital, Hanover on Monday, June 7, 2021, in her 95th year.
Born in Owen Sound, Ontario, on November 17, 1926, to the late John and Martha (nee Snell) Mortimer.
Irene has left the party but she insists that everyone carry on without her and simply raise a glass to a life well enjoyed. She was a great Mom and Mother-in-law to Terry (Anne) of Fergus, Ron (Mona) of Marmora, Sean (Mary Anne) of Guelph, Lori of Hanover, and Randy (Ana) of Cambridge, and loved Grandma to Stori (Simon), Devon (Rob) and Mikey, and great Grandma to Evan and Brynn. Fondly remembered by sister Sharon of Fergus.
Although she carried on with a full and fun-filled life, she lost the love of her life when her beloved husband Don tragically lost his life in 1983. Also predeceased by her brother Jim Mortimer.
Stories will be told and retold in the days and years ahead about Irene and, though hard to believe, most of them are true. Yes, even that one tale about table dancing in Mexico. A lot of those good times were shared with her extended family Len and Dorothy Davis and Shirley and Jack Austerberry, and her wonderful nieces and nephews. She also formed a lot of lasting connections with friends and colleagues during her years with the University of Guelph’s College Women’s Club. Many great memories were also shared with friends and neighbours from the years Irene lived in Uxbridge, Guelph, and Beaverton, and Highland Manor Retirement Lodge in Fergus, and The Village Long Term Care Home in Hanover. Irene’s family wishes to thank the professional staff at both The Village and Hanover & District Hospital for their excellent care for Irene.
As per her wishes, cremation has taken place. Future inurnment in Uxbridge Cemetery.
Memorial donations to Pancreatic Cancer Canada would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy. Arrangements entrusted to the care of Mighton Funeral Home, Hanover. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.mightonfuneralhome.ca
