George Hopf, of Hanover, passed away peacefully surrounded by love at Residential Hospice of Grey Bruce in Owen Sound on Wednesday, April 28, 2021.  He was 80. 

Born in Walkerton on October 4, 1940 to the late Jacob and Loreeta (nee Kirstine) Hopf. George was employed with Lloyd Hope Construction. He was a character for sure and will be remembered by many. 

Survived by loving and devoted wife Eileen (nee Schaus) Hopf of Hanover. Father of Lisa Hopf (Shane Bernhardt) and Lori (Tim) Schmidt both of Hanover. Grandpa was special and had a kind heart for his grandchildren. Missing him are Braeden Golden (friend Dominique), Joshua Schmidt and Jenna Schmidt (friend Phoenix). George will be remembered by his siblings Alfreida (Lloyd) Gutscher of Walkerton, Ron (Myrtle) Hopf of St. Thomas, Wayne Day of Bluevale, Marlene (Ron) Whitehead of Hanover, Dorothy (Clark) Fortune of Chesley, Jake (Carol) Hopf of London and Shirley (Roy) May of Mount Forest. Treasured by his many nieces, nephews and their families as well as his Godson Christopher Schaus. George will be remembered by his in laws Douglas (Donna) Schaus of Hanover, Bob (Diane) Schaus of Elmwood, Deb (Mike) Roth of Port Elgin. Predeceased by his parents, sisters Jean Harron, Betty Lane, Pat Schiestal, Caroline in infancy, brother Donald Hopf and God daughter Diane Gutscher. 

To honour his wishes, cremation has taken place and a private family graveside will be held at Hanover Cemetery. Pastor Lyndsay McGregor officiating.

Memorial donations to the Residential Hospice of Grey Bruce, Heart and Stroke or Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy. Arrangements entrusted to the care of Mighton Funeral Home, Hanover.
