Marie Ashton

Marie Ashton

We are sad to share that our dear wife and mother, Marie Ashton, of Hanover,  passed away on Thursday, September 3, 2020 in her 83rd year at Chapman House.

Beloved wife of 60 years to Reg – the love of her life.  An abiding love and mutual respect for each other were the cornerstone of their marriage.  Loving mother of Suzanne (Steve) White and Alan (Chris) Ashton all of Hanover.  Grandmother of Courtney (AJ) Grant, Stephanie White, Claire (Mitch) Collingridge and Jaime Ashton.  Great Grandmother (GG) of Harlow and Lennon Grant and Ava Collingridge.  She is survived by many nieces and nephews and their families. Predeceased by her parents Milton and Ella Schenk (nee Kraft).  Best friend and youngest sister of Violet (Elmer) Fisher, Irene (Lou) Colvey, Walter (Grace) and Lorenz Schenk

Marie was employed by Horizon Chicks and later J.M. Schneider in an administrative position.  The relationships she made while working in the poultry industry continued after retirement.  She was respected by her colleagues and all those who were fortunate to work with her.  After retirement, she volunteered many hours at the Hanover and District Hospital. Marie was a thoughtful, kind and strong woman.  The pillars of Marie’s life were her family and her faith.  She was so proud of her family.  Making lasting memories, she will be dearly missed by her church family as she was a faithful member of St. Matthew’s Ev. Lutheran Church, sang in the church choir, and an active member of the ELW holding different executive positions.

Throughout her life, she was a classy lady, meticulous in her appearance with an abundance of style.  An avid golfer – she enjoyed the game with her family and friends.  A tad competitive - she won the title of Ladies Club Champion and Seniors Ladies Champion at Buck’s Crossing. Marie loved living at Lake Rosalind but did enjoy her winters in Florida.  But family came first, and she gave up Florida upon the arrival of her great grandchildren. While we will miss our wife and mom, we are at peace knowing she lived a life full of beauty and love and that she will be with her parents and siblings. We thank all our family and friends for their kind support.  We ask that in her memory you share an act of kindness toward anyone who may be in need.

Family and friends are invited to a Memorial Visitation on Tuesday, September 8, 2020 at Mighton Funeral Home, Hanover from 2 – 4pm. As per the provincial regulations and COVID-19 restrictions, all visitors are requested to wear a mask when inside the funeral home.
