William "Bill" J. Cowan, of Hanover, passed away peacefully at The Village Senior's Community on Wednesday, April 29, 2020. He was 91.
Born on December 29, 1928 to the late Clarence and Elva (nee Cadwell) Cowan in Maryborough Township. Bill was a baker by trade and enjoyed creating many styles of cakes, including birthday cakes and wedding cakes for family and friends. He was employed as a cloth cutter, working many years at Buckeye Pearless Factory in Hanover. A member of the Oddfellows Lodge in Hanover and St. Matthew's Ev. Lutheran Church, Hanover, Bill and Ruth joined the St. Matthew's Ev. Lutheran Church Choir. Their love for family was inevitable and they truly enjoyed spending time with each one and with their friends over the years. A lifetime of memories were made. Bill's talents were immeasurable and plentiful, including his artistic side with his many stained glass pieces that were made for family and can be shown to this day.
Beloved husband of the late Ruth (nee Fischer) Cowan. Dear brother of Marion Elliott of Listowel. He will be remembered by his sister in law Dorothy Cowan of Brampton. Remembered by his God daughter Pauline (David) Sewell, his nieces, nephews: Jeff (Judy) Boylan, Lorrie (Paul) Runge, Katherine (Ken) Taylor, Patricia (Mitchell) Granter, Marcia (Don) Vollmer, Sheryl Elliott (Derek Asselestine) and their families. Always remembered by special friends Gary (Carol) Rahn, Cheryl Rahn, Mary Johnston and Theresa (Morris) Leifso. Predeceased by his sister Luella Van Eck, brother Lorne Cowan, nephew William Paul Elliott and in laws Charles Boylan, Maurice Van Eck and Harvey Elliott.
