Gloria Bellam of Hanover Ontario passed away peacefully at her home in the Seasons Brantford Retirement residence on March 12, 2018, in her 99th year.

Gloria was born in Cookshire, a beautiful town in the Eastern Townships of Quebec, on August 4, 1919. She was the only child of the late James and Estelle (Wahl) Frasier.

After finishing High School in Cookshire, she attended Mount Allison University for one year and then went to McGill University in Montreal where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree with Honours in French and English as well as a High School Teacher’s Certificate, qualifying her to teach in any Protestant high school in the Province of Quebec. While at McGill, Gloria also earned the Bronze medal in Life-Saving.

Gloria taught for several years in Quebec City and North Hatley before marrying Darrell Ashton Bellam in 1949. After his death in 1968, Gloria returned to teaching at Alexander Galt Regional High School until 1978, when ill-health forced her to retire.

A few years later, she sold her beautiful family home in Cookshire and moved to Hanover, Ontario, where she bought a bungalow. She was happy to be in Hanover and nearer to family: sister-in-law and husband Audrey and Bob Taylor, and her three sons who were working and living in Ontario. She enjoyed entertaining family and friends, especially on her patio in the summer. Gloria also enjoyed travelling (often with Audrey and Bob), and took trips in North America, Australia, and Europe.

She is survived by: her three sons, Frasier, Liles, and Harold (Brenda); grandchildren Christina (Rob), Philip (Shannon), Monica (Kevin), Corey (Sophal), Tyler, and Ryan (Jessica) and 12 great-grandchildren; niece Elizabeth Voskamp and grand-nephew Markus-Robert Kolic; and several cousins.

Cremation has taken place, and burial of ashes will occur at a later date in the Cookshire Protestant Cemetery. As an expression of sympathy, donations to the Hanover Hospital would be appreciated by the family. Visitation (1:00-2:30 pm) followed by a Celebration of Life will be at Mighton Funeral Home in Hanover on Saturday, April 14, 2018.
