John Garvey, of Hanover, passed away peacefully with his family at his side at Chapman House in Owen Sound on Monday, October 28, 2019. He was 80.
Born in Normanby Township on July 11, 1939 to the late Ambrose and Marie (nee Montag) Garvey. John was never afraid of hard work and it paid off while he worked on the farm. He had a wicked sense of humor and will be remembered fondly for his strength and patience.
Survived by loving wife Catherine (nee Nagle) Garvey of Hanover. Loved father of Catherine (Steven) Lindner of Bentinck Township, Jean (Jim) Clemmer of Tavistock, Paul (Liz) Garvey of Bentinck Township and Steven Garvey of Stratford. Dear grandfather of Justine (Marcel), Tony, Rebecca, Jessica, Matthew, Melina, Kaitlyn, Brianna, Leeanne and great granddaughter Lyra. Dear brother of Mary Stroeder of R#3 Hanover. Fondly remembered by his brother in law Austin Grubb of Mildmay and sisters in law Sheila Garvey of Neustadt , Mary Garvey and Kay Garvey both of Hanover. Predeceased by brothers Bernard, Jerome, Francis, Patrick, Raymond, sisters Rita Fortney, Bernadette Burns, Leona Grubb and Helen Hinsperger.
Visitation will be held at Mighton Funeral Home, Hanover, on Sunday, November 3, 2019 from 2-4pm & 7:30-9pm with Vigil Prayers commencing at 7:00 pm.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, November 4, 2019 at 11:00 am, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Walkerton (221 Victoria St, Walkerton ON). Private family interment in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery - St. Mary's.
Memorial donations to the London Health Sciences Foundation-Cancer Campaign would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy.
