Clair Douglas Rogers, of Hanover, passed away October 24, 2019 at the Villa, Hanover. He was 89.
Beloved husband of Mae for 60 years. Father to Douglas (Maria Dawes), Karen (Joseph Stemmler). Grandpa to Rachel (Chris Wilson), Michael, and Abby. He will be remembered by his sister Marjory (Allan Donaldson). Clair is predeceased by his brother Lawrence (Muriel Finnimore), and brother-in-law Harold Howe. Survived by sisters-in-law Shirley Howe and Alice Inkster. He is survived by many loving relatives, and a host of long-time friends.
As a mechanical test engineer, he worked for Westinghouse, NCR, Raytheon, and UTDC. He enjoyed his last job working on the light rail transit trains for Vancouver as a test engineer.
Clair, having learned cabinet making in his father’s workshop, liked working with wood. He was an avid lover of nature and he knew the names of most plants and trees. He had a passion for gardening and often had extra vegetables to give away. He loved to volunteer his time. He volunteered at the Y’s mens club, Millhaven Penitentiary teaching English, performed gardening for the town of Bath, and was often seen helping out at church activities. The church meant a lot to Clair all of his life. He was always helping out somebody.
A service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday November 1, 2019 at Grace United Church, Hanover.
Many thanks to the staff at the Villa, the Hanover Hospital, CCAC, the Alzheimer’s society, the Day Away program, Dr White and Dr Abel, countless volunteers, friends and family who have supported Clair and Mae.
The staff at the Villa have gone well above and beyond in making Clair's life comfortable and well nourished. The family is very grateful for all those who have assisted him to bring a smile to his face and listen to his stories of the tree outside his window!
As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to the Hanover Hospital Foundation or Grace United Church.
