Ruth Marguerite Allen (nee Metzger), of Hanover, passed away with family by her side at Hanover and District Hospital on Saturday, August 3, 2019. She was 78.

Born on September 20, 1940 to the late Otto and Pearl (nee McFarland) Metzger. Ruth will be remembered for her love of all things pink and floral, and as an avid scrapbooker. She was one of the first residents of the Participation Lodge program at the Lutheran Manor and would always welcome everyone through her doors. She had a heart of gold and enjoyed going out for her scoots around town just to see what was happening and what was up with everyone. She passionately collected and gathered for Operation Christmas Child. There was never a short trip downtown, as running into everyone gave her joy and allowed her to catch up on the daily activities....much better than reading the paper. She was a faithful member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Elmwood and made everlasting friendships. Family and friends were everything and most important to her.

Survived by husband Donald Allen of RR#1 Elmwood. Loved mother of Carol (Jeff) Holtham of Waterloo and David (Tanya) Allen of Hanover. Special grandmother of Dominic, Emma and Aaron. Fondly remembered by her brothers Robert Metzger of Elmwood, Donald Metzger of Nanton, AB, Dennis Metzger of Owen Sound, sisters Verna (Harry) Philipp of Dundas, Linda Metzger of Meaford, and Barbara (Brad) Leifso of Walkerton. Ruth always held a special place in her heart for Jenny Russwurm as she was raised by her throughout her life. Predeceased by brothers Dale, Larry and sister Brenda.

To honour her wishes, a Private Family Interment Service was held at St. John's Lutheran Cemetery in Elmwood. A Service of Remembrance will be held on Thursday, August 22, 2019 at 11:00 am, at St. John's Lutheran Church - Elmwood with a time of fellowship and sharing of memories commencing after the service. Rev. Hannes Aasa officiating. Arrangements entrusted to the care of Mighton Funeral Home, Hanover.

Memorial donations to the Participation Lodge, SMART or to the Hanover & District Hospital Foundation were appreciated as expressions of sympathy.
