Robert Gilbert Boorne, of Hanover, passed away peacefully at London Health Sciences Centre on Wednesday, June 19, 2019 with his loving wife, Donna (Troscinski) holding his hand. He was 69.
Robert (Rob/Bob) and Donna celebrated their 38th wedding anniversary on June 5th.
Robert was born in Toronto to the late Jack and Marjorie (nee Gibbings) Boorne. He was the dearly loved younger brother of Dave (Anne) Boorne, of Picton, and Marg Luck of Markham.
One of a kind brother-in-law to Josephine (Gary) Fife of Thorold, Roseanne (David) Fife of St. Catharines, Rosemary (Mark) MacMillan of Oshawa and Jean (Mark) Brohman of Beamsville.
Uncle of Ryan Boorne, Scott Boorne, Christina Luck, Bryan (Angelique) Fife, Karen Fife, and Alexandra, Kevin and Matthew Brohman.
Great uncle to Stella and Oskar Boorne and Eva Mia Boorne.
Predeceased by nephew Andrew Boorne.
Remembered by dear friends Maurice and Debbie Hopkins of West Grey and Bob (Cuz) Hall of Frankford.
From 1985 to 2004, Robert was employed at MacTavish Esso as, in his words, a “Professional Petroleum Transfer Technician” - he pumped gas. He was well known for his quick wit, corny jokes and his encyclopedic recall of facts and trivia.
His interests were many: astrology, history, classical music – to name a few. He loved nature, bird watching and the chipmunks who took peanuts from his hand.
Robert loved gardening; especially the challenge of growing giant pumpkins. He enjoyed working with wood and built raised beds, a garden shed, birdhouses, a greenhouse and a cool room to store the bounty of the gardens.
During the winter, Robert stayed busy crocheting colourful hats and afghans and reading his vast collection of science fiction.
A loyal customer of Canada Post, his multi-stickered letters and parcels brought smiles to family and friends, as well as mail carriers from Niagara to Nova Scotia.
In recent years, as health issues limited his mobility, the riding lawn mower gave Robert greater movement and a sense of freedom in the great outdoors.
Now Robert is free to stroll with the wind in happy reunion with his beloved furry friend, “Dog”.
A celebration of Roberts life will be held at the Hanover Masonic Lodge (33313 Grey Rd. 28) on Saturday, August 24th, 2019 from 1pm to 4pm. Cremation has taken place.
Memorial donations to the Residential Hospice of Grey-Bruce-Southwest Region would appreciated as expressions of sympathy. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.mightonfuneralhome.ca.
