Donald Calvin Garland, of Hanover, passed away peacefully at home with the love of his life Shirley by his side on Friday, March 1, 2019. He was 90.
Born in Walkerton on New Years Day in 1929 to the late William "Bill" and Hattie (nee Hoare) Garland. Don worked happily for most of his life on his farm and as a Bee Keeper. He was a dedicated and proud member of the Masonic Lodges in both Hanover and Cargill and held the title of 50 years Past District Deputy Grand Master.
Survived by his devoted wife Shirley (nee Kerslake) Garland of Hanover. Don and Shirley just recently celebrated their 60th Wedding Anniversary. Beloved father of Tom (Janet) Garland of Cargill, Donna (Norm) Reed of Pinkerton, Lawrie McCann of Waterloo, Louise (Marc) Guay of Cambridge, and Andrew (Laura Bean) Garland of Waterloo. Special grandfather of 14 grandchildren; Michael (Krista), Patrick (Shelby), Kristin (Brad), Mark, Kyle, Kimberly (Brent), Stephanie (Alex), Kalvin (Becki), Alysha (Matt), Noah, Jordan, AJ, Zach, Josh, and nine great grandchildren. Fondly remembered by his sisters-in-law Elsie Garland of Swift Current, Saskatchewan and Christine Garland of Pinkerton. He will be remembered by his many nieces and nephews, their families and special family friends Trudy and Linda. Predeceased by his brothers Arthur and Edgar Garland.
To honour his wishes, cremation has taken place. A Memorial Visitation will be held at Mighton Funeral Home, Hanover, on Wednesday, March 6, 2019 from 7-9 pm. Members of both the Hanover #432 and Cargill #431 Masonic Lodges will hold a memorial service at 6:30 pm.
A second visitation will also be held on Thursday, March 7, 2019 at 10:00 am followed by a Service of Remembrance at Grace United Church, Hanover at 11:00 am. Rev. Micol Cottrell will officiate. Spring inurnment of ashes in Douglas Hill Cemetery, Brockton.
Memorial donations to the Grace United Church, Masonic Lodge or to the charity of ones choice would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy.
