Luella Bender, of Hanover, passed away suddenly at Hanover and District Hospital, Hanover on Thursday, February 08, 2018. She was102.
Born on June 4, 1915 in Neustadt, Ontario to the late Otto and Christine (nee Rahn) Lantz. Luella had a love for music and enjoyed teaching various students from all ages. Pauline and Josephine Hahn were influential in her love of music.They were the ones who encouraged her as her dedication to the craft grew, loving all sorts of classical music, she wanted to teach as it was her passion. She was a member of Music Teachers of Grey Bruce as well as Founder of the Leprosy Missions in Grey Bruce. Her love of music lasted a lifetime as she enjoyed fellowship and friendship, becoming a church organist as well as choir director for many years. Remembered as a kind hearted woman with determination,her faith was strong and she was a loyal member of St. Matthew's Ev. Lutheran Church, Hanover and involved with the E.L.W. Her smile was infectious and she will be missed by many students, friends and her church family.
Survived by loved daughter Jane (Don) Deratnay of Hanover, sons Doug (Donna) Bender of Georgia, David (Barbara) Bender of Goderich and John Bender of Hanover. Special grandmother of Peter, Katie (Doug), John (Heather), Sarah (Bill), Jennifer (Dean), Cherie (James), Laurie (Glenn) and great grandmother of Cody, Jessie, Danielle, Ethan (April), Avryl, Madeline, Claudia and Evelyn and a great great grandchild Cohen. Predeceased by her beloved husband Herbert (1991) and her brothers Wilfred (Doris) and Elmer (Anna) Lantz.
Visitation will be held at Mighton Funeral Home, Hanover, on Sunday, February 11, 2018 from 2-4 pm.
A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, February 12, 2018 at 11 am, at St. Matthew's Ev. Lutheran Church (356 9th Avenue, Hanover). Rev. John Polacok officiating. Interment in Hanover Cemetery, Hanover.
