Mildred Martin

Mildred Martin, life long resident of Hanover, passed away surrounded by her family at Hanover and District Hospital on Sunday, May 07, 2017. She was 92.

 

Born on August 24, 1924 in Brant Township to the late John and Elsie (nee Misch) Leifso. Mildred was very active in her community until her declining health. Mildred was kind and caring and always gave her best. She was a serving sister for St. John's Ambulance, a Life Member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #130- Hanover and had served as Ladies Auxiliary and Past President over the years. Mildred was also Past President of the ladies division of the Hanover, Bentinck and Brant Agricultural Society. She loved helping others and her community and did so with enthusiasum and with Charlie by her side. She made her community proud and was even the recipient of the Citizen of the Year Award along side Charlie. Ever faithful and attending when her health permitted, Mildred will be missed by her church family at St. Matthew's Ev. Lutheran Church, Hanover.

 

Survived by loving husband Charles "Charlie" Martin of Hanover. Mildred was a devoted mom to Brian Martin (Marianne Voogt) of Brantford, Harry (Lori) Martin of Bentinck Township, Jean (Gerald) Horst of Hanover, Diane (Mike) Osborne of Kingston and daughter in law Norma Martin of Walkerton. Loved grandmother of Daniel (Amy), Carrie (Brad), Jamie (Jeremy), Kelly (Mike), Steven (Lori-Anne), Joshua (Amy), Troy and Zachary. Nothing brought a smile to her face more than her family and hearing about all the accomplishments her grandchildren and great grandchildren had done. Missing her terribly are great grandchildren Brooklyn, Landon, Addison, Travis, Aiden, Aliyah, Noah, Emeline, Dylan, Hayley, Natalie and Lila. Fondly remembered by her only surviving brother Terry (Sylvia) Leifso of Oakville and her nieces, nephews and their families. Predeceased by beloved son Ray, brothers Elmer Leifso, Bradley Leifso and her sisters Gladys Klemmer and Marie Wolfe.

 

Family and friends are invited to Visitation held at Mighton Funeral Home, Hanover, on Thursday, May 11, 2017 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm.  A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, May 12, 2017 at 11:00 am, at her church, St. Matthew's Ev. Lutheran Church, Hanover. Rev. John Polacok officiating. Interment to follow in Hanover Cemetery, Hanover.

 

Memorial donations to the St. Matthew's Ev. Lutheran Church, Heart & Stroke Foundation or to the Diabetes Association would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy.
