Clare Francis Godfrey, of Hanover, passed away peacefully at Hanover and District Hospital on Wednesday, January 17, 2018. He was 88.

Born in Hanover on November 1, 1929 to the late Anthony and Eleanor (nee Grubb) Godfrey. Clare was retired from P & H Foods as Plant Superintendent. Once he retired he served on the Economic Development Committee for the Town of Hanover. He was a loyal member of the Royal Canadian Legion in Hanover.

Survived by son Ian (Lynda) Rutherford of Chatham. Loved grandfather of Teresa, Tim, Judy, Lisa, Darren and great grandfather of Samantha, Alex, Rebecca, Ryan, Zachary, Griffin, Katlyn, Mitchell and Cheyenne. Fondly remembered by his sisters Sharon (Helmut) Schwartz of Hanover and JoAnn "Jo" Godfrey of Toronto. He will be dearly missed by his special friend Hazel Welechenko of Hanover. Predeceased by his beloved wife Frances "Fran" (nee Browne) Godfrey and his daughter Julie Byers.

To honour his wishes, cremation has taken place. A Memorial Celebration of life will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion - Hanover, on Friday, April 27, 2018, from 2-4 pm with a Memorial Service commencing at 2 pm. Private Inurnment in Holy Family Cemetery, Hanover, along side his beloved wife Fran.
